Camp Manito-wish Summer Camp

Summer Camp Staff

Many of our staff learned their leadership and wilderness skills through Manito-wish programs. Others are carefully selected from colleges and universities across the country. All staff serve as role models and teach the character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility by example.

Cabin counselors supervise one cabin group throughout the session. The counselors reside in the cabin, participate in all activities along with the campers, and lead them on the wilderness trail experience. Counselors have Lifeguard, CPR and Wilderness First Aid certifications. Many Manito-wish staff participate in our Outdoor Leaders School for skill enhancement and certifications. Our eleven-day staff training includes training in small group dynamics, leadership, risk management, wilderness tripping skills, and diversity. Our staff also include Tripping Assistants (TAs) who assist on "trail".

Program staff members share their expertise in their specific program area. They create lesson plans, teach activities and help kids learn skills and have fun in the process! Unique at Manito-wish is that program staff members are separate from the cabin counseling staff. Program staff members are hired to focus on teaching their program areas, and counselors are able to focus on their cabin group.
