Camp Life
At Manito-wish, there are many options for high
energy activity, as well as the opportunity to
relax or play a game with friends. When in Camp,
(and not out on "the Trail"), the campers'
day is structured to encourage individual interests,
cabin group development, and large group activity.
The activities are designed to teach the YMCA
character values of caring, honesty, respect
and responsibility through role modeling and
activity.

During "detail" everyone
in the community takes ownership and responsibility
for the facility and grounds. Each cabin
group is responsible for the upkeep of
a different area each day in addition to
their own cabin.
After breakfast, the program staff announce
the various activities they will be leading
or teaching in their area during the coaching
periods. Each day campers have
the freedom to choose which activities they
participate in that morning. Campers are
allowed to plan their own schedule and
choose two of the eleven program areas.
Each coaching period lasts one hour.
Free time means that the
waterfront is open and campers can chose
to take a swim, play pick up games such
as basketball or volleyball around camp,
or take personal time to read or write
letters. |
 |
In the afternoon, each cabin group participates
in two cabin activity periods.
These activities are assigned by the administrative
staff and are based upon the requests of
each cabin group. In addition to being
a time for the cabin group to learn and
play together, it is an opportunity to
introduce campers to every program area
at least once. |
 |
Evening activities might
include a large group game of Capture the
Flag, an all-camp campfire, special entertainment
or the Camp Show finale! |
