The program activity areas provide the
campers with a variety of options that
are fun and enriching, with a constant
commitment to safety. Not only do campers
have the opportunity to have a good time
and try new things, they also get an
excellent chance to improve their skills.
 |
Sailing
Three instructors teach a progressive
program in beginning, intermediate,
and advanced sailing skills and
techniques on a variety of boats.
The Manito-wish fleet includes
Butterflies, Lasers, E-scows, M-16
scows, MC, and sailboards. |
 |
Horses
Riding directors teach both English
and Western riding techniques in
addition to care and grooming for
the horses. Complete corral and
boarding facilities are augmented
by miles of riding trails through
the state forest lands surrounding
camp. |
 |
Arts & Crafts
The "crafties" instruct campers in
a wide variety of projects ranging
from clay molding, beads, macramé,
candles, jewelry making, tie-dying,
and woodworking. The Craft Shop provides
campers with an opportunity to create
a souvenir of their experience, as
well as learn new skills. |
 |
Swimming
Our swim instructors and lifeguards
teach and supervise water recreation
and games. Swimming takes place
in our designated waterfront area
on Boulder Lake. Popular activities
include water basketball, scavenger
hunts, swimming to the island,
and playing with inner tubes, noodles,
and other water toys. |
 |
Nature
A naturalist uses the Northern Wisconsin
lakes and forests as a tool to
teach campers more about their
environment. In addition to learning
how to have fun outdoors, campers
learn responsibility and respect
for the wilderness. An indoor facility
acts as a base for trips into the
natural surroundings. |
 |
Tennis
Campers of all skill levels learn
from our instructors on four surfaced
courts surrounded by tall trees.
A tournament at the end of the
session gives campers a chance
to test their new skills. |
 |
Music
Music has always played a large role
in Manito-wish life. The full-time
music instructor teaches guitar
and instrument lessons and nurtures
an appreciation for all types of
music. Musical graces before each
meal, evening singalongs after
dinner, Sunday chapel services,
and skits for the camp show encourage
creative expression. |
 |
Riflery/Trap
A safety-trained instructor teaches
US Junior Sports Shooting skills.
Using air rifles, campers progress
through the various shooting positions
and earn recognition according
to the level they achieve. Safety
is also stressed at the trap range
where 12-guage shotguns are used
to shoot clay pigeons. |
 |
Archery
An archery specialist teaches safety
and fun at our archery range. Campers
can develop their skill and accuracy
to become members of the "bulls-eye
club." |
 |
Canoeing/Kayaking
Two waterfront instructors teach
paddling techniques on Boulder
Lake. Campers learn how to paddle
aluminum canoes, wood canvas canoes,
North canoes, and sea kayaks. |
| |
Trail Biking
The biking instructor uses the miles
of off-road trails and obstacle
courses to teach safe handling
and maneuvering skills as well
as bike maintenance on our fleet
of trail bikes. |
