Expeditionary Outpost Program

For campers going into 9th and 10th grades, the Voyageur Program is designed to be an introduction to the Outpost Wilderness Adventure Program. You will spend three days at Camp Manito-wish YMCA, preparing for your trips. In Camp you will plan your menus, pack food, gather equipment, and spend time learning and refreshing trail skills.

2011 Dates:

Boys Session I: June 18 - July 1

Boys Session II: July 19 - August 1

Girls Session I: July 3 - July 16

Girls Session II: August 3 - August 16

While at Camp, Voyageurs have their own rustic site in the woods, complete with canvas wall tents and a fire ring.
Backpacking
The backpackers will spend nine days hiking along the Superior Hiking Trail in the Superior National Forest of northeastern Minnesota. The trail follows along the ridgeline above Lake Superior. All trips focus on the small-group experience, with four to five campers and one leader. They carry all of their provisions for the entire trip on their backs, up rocky ridges, through boreal forests, and past flowing waterfalls. The trail offers spectacular views of Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountains.
Canoeing

The canoeists spend their nine days traveling through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Boasting approximately a million acres of wilderness, the BWCAW offers campers the opportunity to experience pristine waters, natural and cultural history, and awe-inspiring skies. Traveling in groups of four to five campers with one leader, the groups will paddle and portage through some of the picturesque 1000+ lakes that make up the BWCAW.

"I didn't know if the trip would be too hard for me. The trip was awesome the group was cool and I had tons of fun."
